  OpenSciEd Professional Development & Materials Grant

   

   

  This funding is available for professional development and materials to implement OpenSciEd units at the middle and high school levels.

   

  Professional development providers or school districts working directly with professional development providers should apply for funding to cover the cost of attending and facilitating professional development and the materials needed to teach the curriculum.

   

  Grants will be awarded based on the number of hours planned for professional development and coaching and evaluations of the impact of professional development on teacher effectiveness and student achievement. 

   

  Iowa adopted the OpenSciEd materials for its Iowa e-Learning Central (ILC) project in middle school and high school. In science education, the integration of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) is a foundational pillar for fostering student engagement, deepening understanding, and nurturing a culture of inquiry.

   

   

  This funding opportunity is intended to:

   

  1) train teachers to pilot the program as a part of a curriculum adoption,

  2) train teachers after a district has decided to adopt the curriculum and,

  3) train individual teachers who are new to their district or have switched grade levels.

  The deadline to spend these funds is June 30, 2025.
