Iowa AmeriCorps State 2019-2020

Announcement: Volunteer Iowa is pleased to announce the availability of federal funding in the form of AmeriCorps State program grants.  AmeriCorps is a National Service program that helps meet community needs through the efforts of AmeriCorps members. The AmeriCorps State program offers different types of funding to meet the needs of various host agencies and communities.

For more information, interested organizations should read the Volunteer Iowa Request for Applications (RFA), found below as an attachment.  The RFA lays out full details of the funding opportunity, including allowable funding levels, thresholds for program size, and criteria for selection of awards.  Additional materials complementary to the RFA are also found as attachments below.

Questions

Submitted Date Question Answer
09/13/2018 Has the federal NOFA been posted yet? If so, can you provide a link or other information about how to locate it? The federal Notice of Funding Opportunity is not yet publicly available. We are working to develop our Request for Applications, based on information contained within the Notice of Funding Opportunity. This Request for Applications will be posted here in IowaGrants on, or shortly after, September 24.
09/27/2018 We are wondering if we are already anticipating changes to our budget if we should document this with our pre-application. We are not anticipating an increase/decrease. Example: Sending AmeriCorps members to a new training conference for this next year, not currently reflected in the budget- should we document changes to our budget by moving match money around? The pre-application for returning programs this year doesn’t require you to submit a draft budget but just asks you some questions about your plans for the budget. So, you will be able to indicate that you do not anticipate changing your request in terms of MSY or award amount but that you do anticipate some other budget revisions. We know that many competitive continuation programs make the kind of adjustments you discuss (moving money within the budget without changing award totals).
09/27/2018 Can you please share some details about the October 2, 10am webinar? Another staff member will be spearheading our reapplication but I am definitely needing to learn the ins and outs. The webinar is scheduled at the time of a previously scheduled out of town recruitment event. I’m not sure I will be able to attend and it is difficult to have that information reiterated. Would it be possible to have it recorded for future review? What recommendations might you have? The webinar will go over the contents and requirements for the pre-application as well as highlight upcoming steps in the application and review process. We will record the webinar and post the recording to the funding opportunity in IowaGrants.
10/04/2018 How do you know if your pre-application has been successfully submitted? Will there be a response email, or some other way to confirm? Email acknowledgements were sent last week for all pre-applications that were received by the due date.
10/09/2018 Will the recording of the Oct. 2 webinar be made available? Our program is in Year 3 of a competitively funded program. If our pre-application is accepted, is it correct that we would submit a new application with due dates TBD? Yes, we’ve had some technical difficulties accessing the recording for posting but are still hopeful we will be able to do so. We are reviewing returning program pre-applications at this time and will have feedback to you this week about your status for the final application.
11/13/2018 We are applying for year 3 of our continuation grants. Years 1 and 2 had a cost/MSY of 13,800. Can we propose higher cost/MSY this year? Yes, according to our reading of the CNCS language on p. 14 of the Final Application Instructions (“Continuation applicants may apply for expansions – dollars, MSY, and/or members), you are allowed to request a higher cost per MSY this year than in previous years. That would essentially be an expansion in dollars without an expansion in MSY or members.
11/13/2018 I'm working on inputting our budget for the grant app. Question under the staff travel section. In eGrants, the CNCS travel line item is in there and you can't delete it. However, I thought based on the instructions that we didn't have to include this line item this year? We have to have the Volunteer Iowa line item. That’s correct, you can see the detailed budget instructions on p. 23 of the Final Application Instructions for our full guidance on this section. We require you to budget at least $1000 for ICVS training and we prefer that be on its own line item. Since you are not a national direct you do not need to budget anything in the CNCS trainings line item.
