The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) is pleased to announce the availability of federal funding in the form of AmeriCorps State program grants. AmeriCorps is a national service program that helps meet community needs through the efforts of AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps programs are hosted by non-profit organizations, state agencies and local governments, elementary and secondary schools, Indian tribes, colleges and universities, community and faith-based organizations, and intermediary organizations representing a combination of these or similar groups, working together.
In 2010, Iowa experienced record growth in AmeriCorps funding from the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. The ICVS encourages all interested applicants to build on this success by applying for the 2011-2012 programs. The AmeriCorps State program offers different types of funding to meet the needs of various host agencies.
For more information or to access the application materials, please visit the ICVS website, www.volunteeriowa.org. The Request for Grant Proposals and accompanying documents are found on the ‘AmeriCorps—Start a Program’ page under the ‘For Organizations’ tab (http://www.volunteeriowa.org/americorps/start-ac.aspx). Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a Letter of Intent to Apply to the ICVS by October 13, 2010, with final applications due November 17, 2010 (for State Program, Professional Corps, Ed ucation Award Fixed Amount, and Full-Time Fixed Amount grants).
Planning grants are also available to help organizations develop their ideas for leading an AmeriCorps program, and are listed as a separate funding opportunity in iowagrants.gov.
